Energy Saving Tips

Cleaning, maintenance and inspection of heating system

This is essential for the high efficiency of any heating system.

Heating system piping

Insulation of the piping system is crucial, as otherwise heat is lost on the way to its actual destination (radiator, convector etc.).

Thermal switches

Thermal switches should be installed by a professional plumber at each radiator. As a consequence temperature is controlled automatically.

Sealing up

Especially in older buildings the danger of cold air entering through joint openings and crannis prevails. One can use cheap foam sealings or more expensive rubber sealings to keep the cold air outside.

Do not overheat

Different rooms require different temperatures. The ideal temperature for the living room is 22 degrees Celsius, whereas in the bathroom it is 24 degrees and in the bedroom 18 degrees is sufficient.

Keeping rooms warm

To heat up rooms from very cold temperatures is usually more expensive than heating them at low temperature. Hence even in unused rooms the heating shall never be turned off completely.

Short time ventilation is ideal

It is important to have good air quality inside, but constantly keeping windows open is costly. A tilted or half open window lets in too much cold air, hence increasing energy bills. The best approach is to keep the entire window open for 5-10 minutes and ensure air flow into neighboring rooms.

These are the first steps to save energy. Further possibilities are the modernisation of the heating system or thermal insulation of the whole building facade.
